It's finally here! Summer movies are upon us in full swing. Our summer schedule will arrive soon but for now, we will be having extra late shows this Sunday night and extra matiness on Memorial Day to celebrate.
Last year the major movie studios released 27 movies between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This year the number is a very high 35. That means that movies will not be playing for as many weeks as they did last year. Where we might have had a movie play for four or five weeks last year, this year we might be only able to play it for three weeks or even less in some cases. There are also lots of movies which get released on days other than Friday in the weeks ahead. Please keep an eye on the schedule and I'll do my best to keep you informed!
The good news is that we have the Elkader Cinema and they will typically be getting movies after they play at the Prairie Cinema, so if you miss a big movie don't hesitate to come see us across the river!
It's been two years since the gang known as the Wolfpack narrowly escaped disaster in Bangkok. Now, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Doug (Justin Bartha) have happy lives at home -- but Alan (Zach Galifianakis) doesn't. Still lacking contentment and a sense of purpose, Alan has gone off his meds and surrendered to his natural impulses. It's up to the other members of the Wolfpack to get him through his personal crisis by embarking on a road trip to the place it all began: Las Vegas. The Wolfpack set out in search of Mr. Chow after Doug is kidnapped by a criminal seeking to recover $21 million from the diminutive hustler as the decadent Hangover trilogy winds to an outrageous close. This movie is rated R with a running time of 1 hour and 47 minutes.

The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. This movie is rated PG13 with a running time of 2 hours and 22 minutes and is playing in both 2D and 3D.
