Both The Elkader Cinema and the Prairie Cinema
are now digital!  They both have 3D capability!
No more scratches!  With 35mm film, sometimes the print is scratched when we get it.  That won't happen anymore!
When schedules and studios allow, it will be possible for us to show events on the big screen, not just movies.  We
may be able to show major football games, other sporting events, concerts, etc.  The Insight Bowl was a great
success!
We will be able to play DVD's on the big screen with better brightness and clarity than in the past.  For example, we
recently played an independent film, "16 To Life", filmed in McGregor, and it looked fantastic on our system!

Benefits of Digital Cinema, offered at both the Elkader Cinema and the Prairie Cinema:
A few people have expressed confusion about 2-D vs. 3-D.  Here is a little information that will hopefully help:
  • More than 75% of movies are still 2-D only.  If a movie does not clearly state that it is in 3-D, you can assume that it will be shown
    in 2-D.
  • Even if a poster or advertisement displayed by another theater says "3-D", you cannot safely assume that that theater will be
    exhibiting the movie in 3-D.
  • If a movie was not made for 3-D, we cannot show it in 3-D.  It takes special cameras and/or computer animation when creating a
movie to be able to present as 3-D.  If that work was not done up-front, there is nothing we can do after the fact to make it 3-D.
  • Most 3-D movies are also distributed in 2-D, simply because many movie theaters still do not have the capability to show 3-D
movies and studios want their movies shown in as many theaters as possible.
  • We will provide 3-D glasses for your use.  You will not see the 3-D effects if you do not use the glasses.  Without the 3-D
glasses, a 3-D movie will appear blurry with a slight double-image.  If you already wear glasses, the 3-D glasses will fit
    comfortably over your glasses.
  • There is discussion within the industry that the studios will cease to provide 3-D glasses, at which time customers may be
required to purchase them.  For now, they are provided at no cost to the customer.
  • There is additional cost to us involved in showing 3-D movies, but we chose to pass on only $1 of the cost to the customer at the
Elkader Cinema, and none of the increased cost to the customers at the Prairie Cinema.
  • The Elkader Cinema went digital in December of 2009.  The Prairie Cinema (previously known as the Star Cinema) went digital in
all 6 auditoriums in September, 2011.
